Sculptra Injections For Facial Wrinkles

Sculptra: It is a safe and effective non-surgical technique. It is done by injecting a substance consisting of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) into the skin to perform its mission by penetrating into the deeper skin layers and stimulating the collagen-producing cells. It is then decomposed and absorbed, which does not pose any harm to the body. .

Sculptra, a synthetic material derived from lactic acid—a naturally occurring substance in the human body—is biocompatible. Consequently, there is no necessity for a preliminary allergy test before undergoing Sculptra treatment. However, to minimize the risk of bleeding, it is recommended to discontinue the use of anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen several days prior to the treatment. The use of acetaminophen is permissible due to its safety profile. Additionally, it is advisable to refrain from consuming caffeinated beverages, as Sculptra contains caffeine, which may potentially elevate blood pressure.

In terms of the procedural steps, the first stage involves identifying and meticulously cleaning the areas designated for Sculptra injection, followed by thorough sterilization. Subsequently, a local anesthetic is administered to ensure the patient's comfort and eliminate any potential pain during the injection. Finally, Sculptra is precisely injected into the targeted area.

Contraindications for Sculptra Injections

Usage of Sculptra is prohibited for pregnant and breastfeeding women, and it is not recommended for individuals with heart disease. Furthermore, it is contraindicated for those under 18 years of age or individuals with immune diseases.

Number of Sessions for the Patient

To attain the desired aesthetic outcomes, patients may require approximately one to three sessions, with some cases necessitating up to 6 sessions. The determination of the number of sessions involves assessing the achievement of aesthetic goals and evaluating the skin's health during the treatment period.

A Sculptra injection session typically lasts 15-30 minutes, contingent on the size of the treatment areas and the number of injections administered. For instance, addressing lines between the nose and mouth may take about 15 minutes, while treating very thin cheeks with 6 doses of injections could extend the session to 40 minutes. If multiple areas, such as the forehead, cheeks, and jawline, are injected, the session may last up to an hour.

Dosing Considerations

The required dose is contingent on the patient's age and condition. While one Sculptra injection is usually sufficient, older individuals, such as 60-year-old women correcting hollow cheeks or significant volume loss in the chin area, may need 6 injections. Meanwhile, 45-year-old women seeking to eliminate deep wrinkles may require 4-5 injections of lactic acid.

Post-Injection Care

Following Sculptra injection, patients can promptly return to normal activities. Swelling, bruising, and side effects are typically mild and subside within a few days. Recovery can be expedited by following these instructions:

  1. Apply cold compresses to the injected area for a few minutes at a time in the first 24 hours.

  2. Massage the area for five minutes, five times daily for five days.

  3. Avoid sunlight or tanning sessions until redness and swelling dissipate; use sunscreen with a protection rate of at least 30%.

  4. Abstain from applying cosmetics for the initial four hours.

Results

Final results manifest within three weeks after the last treatment session. For those requiring one session, results emerge 2-3 weeks post-treatment. However, individuals necessitating 6 sessions may witness desired results after 7 months, coinciding with the 6-month treatment period.

Results are gradual, lasting 2-5 years, comparable to other techniques with shorter durations. Maintaining results involves annual Sculptra injections, offering a cost-effective means of preserving appearance.
